Run, Walk or Cycle?

The Senju area is sandwiched by two rivers – the Arakawa and the Sumidagawa, and local people are especially proud of calmly-flowing Arakawa River and its bank. Although Sumidagawa today is a treasure house of birds and small animals, it is an artificial river dug over 17 years from 1913 to protect the area from floods.

It is a great spot for running and cycling, too. The Sumidagawa is narrow and cozy. From its promenades, you can command a good view of Tokyo Skytree (TV tower). Walk to these rivers is highly recommended.

Relax on the riverbank

A relaxing green spot with huge open skies by the Arakawa is just a 15 minute-walk from Kita-Senju Station!
On the way to the riverbank, stop by some local stores on Shukubamachi-dori shopping street or Sun Road shopping street. Grab some snacks, such as fresh sandwiches, burgers, Japanese confectioneries, and a cup of coffee, then have a little picnic there.

Adachi Fireworks Festival

In 2025, the festival is scheduled on May 31.

Adachi Fireworks Festival takes place along the riverbank of the Arakawa. Some 15,000 fireworks will be remembered as a fascinating summer event in Japan.
