Pregnancy Notification
After confirming your pregnancy with a doctor, please file a pregnancy notification form with the Health Promotion Subsection (Adachi City Office South Wing, 2 fl.) or your local General Health Center. You will be issued free of charge a Mother and Child Health Bag which includes a Mother and Child Health Handbook and Health Checkup Cards for Pregnant Women, as well as materials related to expectant mothers, infants and toddlers.
Furthermore, for expectant mothers who do not speak Japanese well, there are auxiliary reading materials for the Mother and Child Health Handbook in foreign languages (English, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Tagalog, Portuguese, Indonesian and Spanish), so if you would like to have them, please ask.
Health Checkups for Pregnant Women
Using the Health Checkup Cards for Pregnant Women and Ultrasound Examination Cards for Pregnant Women (for those 35 years of age or older) that are included in the Mother and Child Health Bag, women can receive free of charge such services as health examinations, urinalysis, anemia tests, blood pressure checks and syphilis tests at designated medical institutions within Tokyo.

Subsidies for Childbirth Expenses
The Hospitalized Childbirth Program enables women to have babies delivered in the hospital for a reasonable fee, if the household has difficulty in paying the cost, regardless of the need for hospitalization for childbirth.
Those who meet the following conditions may receive a subsidy upon application.
- An Adachi City resident who is at least 7 months pregnant
- A household with an income tax amount for the previous year of ¥16,800 or less
However, this excludes households paying Residents’ Tax who receive a lump-sum Childbirth Benefit of ¥350,000 or more from health insurance. Furthermore, please note that you must use a maternity hospital that is licensed as a maternity facility.

Hello Baby Visiting Service (Visiting Child-Raising Consultation Service for Babies Three Months of Age or Older)
When your child is born, please mail the childbirth notification slip (postcard) enclosed in the Mother and Child Health Bag. Specialized staff, such as a midwife, will visit your home and offer free consultation and advice concerning your baby’s health and child-raising.

Medical Subsidies for Children
Subsidies from Adachi City are available for the personally-borne expenses of medical fees incurred when a child (from infants and toddlers up to third-year junior high school students living in Adachi City and enrolled in health insurance) receives treatment for illnesses or injuries. No income restrictions apply.
For Single-Parent Families, etc.
Various programs, such as child support allowance, child-rearing allowance and medical subsidies for single parents, are available for single-parent families and other households. Income restrictions apply for all programs, and various conditions must be checked, so please call in advance for more information.

Immunizations (Optional)
Unlike the free legally-designated immunizations mentioned above, a fee will be charged for the optional immunization against chicken pox. However, subsidies in the form of coupons from cooperating merchants in Adachi City are available for children 1 year of age up to, but not including, 2 years of age for part of the cost (\5,000 ceiling) of the chicken pox immunization.

Nursery SchoolsNursery Schools
These are child welfare facilities that take care of children on behalf of their parents when they are unable to provide child care at home because of work or illness.
Applications for admission to nursery schools for the school year beginning in April are accepted for approximately two weeks in December of the previous year. In other months (excluding February and March), the deadline for submitting an application is the 15th of the previous month (if the 15th is a Saturday, Sunday or national holiday, then the day before or after). Applications are to be submitted to the Entry Administration Subsection of the Child Care Section or your local Welfare Office (or to nursery schools for April enrolment only). For more information, please read the nursery school application information. Furthermore, please note that translations of the application information are available in English, Chinese and Korean.
For Parents of Preschoolers Attending Private Kindergarten
Subsidies for nursery fees and subsidies for kindergarten admission fees are available. However, restrictions apply, such as visa status and income.

Child Allowance
This allowance is provided to those who are raising children who have not yet completed elementary school. Those who do not have a visa, whose stay is only for the short term or whose visa has expired are not eligible for this allowance. Income restrictions apply.
Monthly Allowance: First child – ¥5,000; second child – ¥5,000; third and subsequent child – ¥10,000. Children under 3 Years of Age: First and second child – ¥10,000

Municipal Kindergarten and Kindergarten/Nursery School Student Applications
Every year in early November, municipal kindergartens and kindergartens/nursery schools of Adachi City accept applications for admission for 4-year-olds (two-year child care program) and 5-year-olds (one-year child care program).
Note: As for private kindergartens, please ask the kindergarten of your choice directly.
Kindergarten/Nursery Schools
These are municipal preschool educational facilities that combine nursery school for children 1-3 years of age and kindergarten for children 4-5 years of age.
