Certificate of Registered Information
This document serves as proof of the information recorded in the foreign resident registry.
It is the equivalent of the “juuminhyo” issued only to Japanese nationals.
Where to Apply: Foreign Resident Registration Subsection or your local Residents’ Office.
Fee: ¥300 per copy
How to Apply: Please come to the counter in person and show your Certificate of Alien Registration. If you cannot apply for the certificate in person, a family member of the same household who is 16 years of age or older can apply on your behalf. However, if you have a proxy who is not a family member of the same household, he/she must have some form of personal identification and a letter giving him/her power of attorney.
Seal Registration
A seal (inkan) is used in various situations in Japan instead of a signature. For particularly important documents, it may be necessary to use a seal that you have had registered at the city office. At that time, a Seal Certificate is issued by the city office to certify that the seal is authentic. This registered seal is called a “jitsuin.”
Anyone 15 years of age or older who has completed foreign resident registration may register a seal. However, those who are receiving “Seinen Koken Seido” (a program to support adults who have disabilities i.e. mental disability) are not eligible to register for seal registration. Registration must be completed by the applicant in person. Please bring the seal you wish to have registered and your Certificate of Alien Registration to the Foreign Resident Registration Subsection or Residents’ Office and complete application procedures. One seal may be registered per person, at a cost of ¥50. You will receive a Seal Registration Certificate. If you move in or out of the city, you must return the Seal Registration Certificate and complete registration procedures again.
Applying for Issuance of a Seal Certificate
This certificate is issued if you bring your Seal Registration Certificate to the Foreign Resident Registration Subsection of the city office or your local Residents’ Office and complete an application. The fee is ¥300 per copy. The certificate can also be issued to someone who applies on your behalf if he/she brings your Seal Registration Certificate and correctly completes the application form with the applicant’s name, address, etc.
