Be Prepared for an Earthquake or Disaster

People should be aware of community/regional disaster-prevention measures, and each family should also make preparations in case a disaster strikes. Adachi City encourages the formation of disaster-prevention organizations in town councils or residents’ associations. Today, there are 401 town councils and each holds their own drills in preparation for a disaster. Please participate in fire-fighting drills to learn how to use a fire extinguisher and earthquake simulation sessions to experience the sensation of a major earthquake.

 Family Home Disaster-Prevention Measures

  • Regular inspections should be conducted to ensure that metal braces are securely fastened on such items as signs, vending machines and air conditioners.
  • Items that are likely to topple over, such as furniture, bookshelves and water tanks, should also be secured with metal braces.
  • Store inflammable liquids, such as kerosene and benzine, in a safe place.
  • Prepare emergency backpacks for your family and check/change the contents periodically.
  • Check the location of your local temporary gathering site, evacuation site and evacuation shelter and practice walking to the sites in advance. It is especially important to decide upon a specific meeting place in case the members of your family become separated.
  • Discuss disaster-prevention measures among your family members once a month.

 Temporary Gathering Sites

These are safe places (parks, schools, shrine grounds, empty lots, etc. in the city) where people gather temporarily when evacuating in groups.
